After a four-weekend run, the program recently culminated at the home court of the PBA basketball team in Pasig City.

“We’re ecstatic with the results. Despite this specific edition being exclusive to kids of Phoenix employees, business partners, and friends, we welcomed many attendees through kids who were eager to participate,” said Phoenix Senior Vice President and Fuel Masters team governor Atty. Raymond Zorilla. Open to boys and girls, the four-day camp attracted more than 40 participants. “We appreciate the kids’ enthusiasm over the activities and their parents’ understanding of the importance of sports in physical and mental health.”

The program was held in November and December. PBA players Sean Anthony, Tyler Tio, Jason Perkins, JV Mocon, Kaleb Wesson, team manager Paolo Bugia, assistant coach Willie Wilson, and head coach Topex Robinson were in attendance to support the basketball camp by personally training the campers.

Participating kids were grouped according to their age range, skill level, and difficulty with various drills. These were between ages 6-8, 9-11, 12-14, and 15-16.

The basketball camp’s first three days featured skills development lessons, such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense. The participants’ skills were further honed through short scrimmages and controlled competitive exercises to apply their learning, and prepare them for the tournament-style competition and other activities held on the fourth and last day of training. Notable games included team relay and a parent-and-kid shooting challenge to develop quality time between kids and their families.

On the culmination day, winners for each category based on the tournaments were recognized. The Most Valuable Players (MVPs) were Isaiah Lanot (13 and up), Juan Augusto Barreto (Intermediate), and Joaquin Antonio Alvarez (kids).

“There’s talent in every kid, and the team is beyond grateful to be given the opportunity to help them unleash their strength through sports,” said team captain and power forward Sean Anthony.

The Phoenix Pinoy Hoops program is a basketball clinic that aims to fuel the passion of young, amateur basketball enthusiasts with the assistance of the Phoenix Fuel Masters PBA team. Before its recent edition, the team has held several Pinoy Hoops camps since 2018, including editions in Subic and Davao.

“This program is important to the team and the Phoenix Philippines Foundation for it is a meaningful contribution to the country’s basketball community. We have many ideas in the pipeline, and we hope that more young enthusiasts will be part of what’s to come for the program next year,” said Atty.
